Single Session Therapy
Single-Session Therapy (SST) is a therapeutic approach designed to provide meaningful support in just one session, while leaving the door open for additional help if needed. It is not a specific therapy model, but rather a way of conducting therapy that maximizes the effectiveness of each session. Sessions are up to 90 minutes, we say up to, because if a solution is reached before 90 minutes the session ends at that point.
How SST Works
Preparation – Clients complete a pre-session questionnaire to help both client and therapist prepare for the session.
Session Structure – The therapist helps the client explore their concern, identify solutions, and develop an action plan.
Follow-Up – The client puts the plan into action and assesses whether they are satisfied with outcome or would like an additional session.
Origins & Research
SST has roots in brief therapy models, with research showing that many clients benefit from just one session. Studies indicate that 70-80% of clients feel satisfied with a single session and do not seek further therapy
